本劇以平行時空為主題相當吸引，但劇集開播後反應一般, 劇作家太認真去運用平行時空這概念來設計劇情，導致故事難明，感情線發展亦太突兀。這部劇是李敏鎬退伍回歸之作，粉絲固然有高期望，但如果將這部劇視作劇情片，找找資料作分析，反而更能欣賞故事的呈現方式和佈局。作家金銀淑的細心安排，一來保留了她在《秘密花園》和《鬼怪》中的神秘和科幻色彩，二來又呈現出她更成熟的世界觀，《The King：永遠的君主》其實是將韓國通俗劇帶到另一個層次。
The feedback of the show is not what the writers expected. The core reason is because the use of the concept “parallel universe" is too complicated which caused the story to be difficult to be understood and results in a weak development of love line. Symbolizing the return of Lee Minho, the drama certainly disappointed a group of fans. Yet, if you regard this drama as a feature film and look for information for analysis, you can be more able to appreciate the presentation and layout of the story. The careful arrangement of writer Kim Eun-sook both preserved her mysterious and sci-fi colors in “Secret Garden" and “Ghosts", and presented her more mature world view. “The King: Eternal Monarch" has actually taken Korean popular drama to another level.
沒想到我這個文科生會因為看韓劇而去研究了一下平行時空的科技假設，以下的內容是我消化了網上不同的資料後再嘗試分享我對劇作的看法。
Did not expect that I would study the assumptions of parallel universe because of a Korean drama! The following content is a summary of different information on the Internet and how I think the drama has made use of the theories.
First of all, there are at least nine theories about parallel universe, but like some previous film and television dramas, this drama is designed based on the parallel universe inferred from quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics is the physics of the microcosm, which assumes that there is an/are universe(s) outside our observable universe. In the world we are in, everything has a fixed position, for example, I am sitting in a chair and typing this article, but quantum mechanics experiments have shown that electrons can exist in multiple places (multiple worlds) at the same time, but because of the observer is in one of the worlds (can be understood as space), so he/she cannot observe the co-existence with five senses, but this proves that objects or humans have the opportunity to exist in different worlds at the same time. To be more complicated, this is related to wave function, but it is not important. The important thing is that it explains that the parallel universe in the play may actually exist, but the relevant theory also reflects that it is temporarily impossible to travel through different worlds. The existence of the Manpasikjeok in the play explains the magic/divine power required for the travel (this has nothing to do with science).
The complicated character setting of the drama also reduces its popularity. Many characters in the play have a pair and though they look the same, they have different destinies. One of them is tempted by Lee Lim (played by Lee Jung-jin) and hopes to replace the other, and then follow him to harm Li Gon (played by Li Minho). Under the hypothesis of parallel universe, when everyone makes a decision, for example, I chose to watch “The King", another me who did not watch “The King" exist. It explains why the fates of different characters with same appearance and DNA in the drama are different. Lee Lim used this fact skillfully to fulfil his ambition and pursue eternal existence.
另外，量子力學亦有另一實驗，將兩個曾放在一起的電子，分別放在太空和地面，兩者相隔500公里，科學家發現一粒電子在動時，另一粒也在動，而且是同時在動，這現象稱為電子糾纏。而劇中都有反映有關理論，例如鄭太乙與露娜（兩者都是金高銀飾演）對坐的一幕中二人的不約而同。
In addition, there is another experiment in quantum mechanics. Two electrons that were put together are placed in space and on the ground separately in a distance of 500 kilometers. Scientists found that when one electron is moving, the other is also moving. This phenomenon which is called electronic entanglement is also reflected in the drama. One example is the screen whenJung Tae-eul and Luna (both played by Kim Go-eun) sit opposite to each other.
繼續數數劇中有什麼地方反映了我們對平行時空的「想像」，例如時間的概念，這跟祖父悖論（或稱外祖母悖論）的思想實驗有關。有人會將平行時空與回到過去扣上關係，就像劇中李衮回到1994年救自己的情況一樣，但與劇情不同的是，如果根據祖父悖論的討論，理論上當我們改變了過去，如殺了自己的祖父，我們不一定會消失，我們只是製造多了一個平行時空而已。
There are some other elements in the drama which reflect our “imagination" of parallel universe, such as the concept of time, which is related to the grandfather paradox (or grandmother paradox). Some people associate the relationship between parallel universe and time travel, just like the situation in which Li Gon returned to 1994 and saved himself. However, unlike the plot, with reference to the grandfather’s paradox, theoretically if we kill our grandfather, we will not necessarily disappear, that means the future won’t be changed. We may just create one more parallel universe.
Moreover, the Déjà vu of Kang Shin-jae (played by Kim Kyung-nam ) since he was a child and the mirrored world that the drama have presented for many times have enriched our imagination of parallel universe. Last but not least, the most interesting imagination lies in the setting of the Corean Empire which was a real historical period in the history of Korean peninsula. Li Gon led the army to repel Japan, the civilian female prime minister and the unseparated North and South Korea… Why did the screenwriter choose that period of time to compare with South Korea today? If everything is just imagination, under parallel universe, history changes, will today’s South Korea resemble the Corean Empire in the drama?
Imagine that in our parallel world, I hope that democracy and justice can be manifested there, and the decisions made by those in power are in the opposite of those who ruled the land where we now are.
